How to Trim and Share a Windows Game Bar Recording

Xbox Game Bar can capture a game or app without a separate editor. Once the MP4 is saved, Save Replay can turn the useful part into a short browser-viewable clip.

Direct answer

Record with Windows Game Bar, then open the saved MP4 from the Videos/Captures folder in Save Replay. Select the start and end, preview the range, upload only the prepared clip, and copy its watch URL.

A practical framework

Work through the decision in four steps

  1. 1

    Record the moment

Use Windows + Alt + R to start and stop a Game Bar recording of the game or app.

  2. 2

    Open Videos/Captures

Find the MP4 whose name includes the recorded game or app and the capture date and time.

  3. 3

    Trim in the local preview

Open the MP4 in Save Replay, remove unrelated setup and aftermath, and check the selected audio.

  4. 4

    Share the watch URL

Upload the prepared range and send its public, unlisted, or appropriately restricted link.

Where Windows saves the recording

Microsoft's current Game Bar guidance says recordings are saved as MP4 files under Videos in a folder named Captures. The filename includes the game or app name and the date and time, which helps when several recordings were created during the same session.

Game Bar also supports microphone control while recording. Before sharing, play the selected range with audio and verify whether the microphone, game sound, voice chat, notifications, or other applications reveal anything that should remain private.

Keep Windows capture and sharing as separate steps

Game Bar remains the recorder; Save Replay does not capture the screen or replace the Windows shortcut. Save Replay begins after the MP4 exists, when the user needs to isolate the moment and create a browser-ready watch page.

Keep the source MP4 if the complete session matters. The shared clip is optimized for a conversation, post, bug report, or highlight. Choose public visibility only for intentional discovery, use unlisted for link-only discovery, and use a restricted mode when the content is sensitive.

Put the workflow into practice

Choose the moment before you upload it

Preview locally, select the useful range, and create one browser-ready link without an account for the basic flow.
