How to Turn an OBS Recording Into a Shareable Video Link

OBS recommends MKV for recording resilience because an unexpected interruption is less likely to invalidate the whole recording. Save Replay accepts MP4, MOV, M4V, and WebM sources when the browser can decode and prepare them; MKV is not one of the accepted source containers in the current upload flow.

That does not require choosing a less resilient OBS recording format. OBS includes a Remux Recordings command and can also be configured to remux automatically. Remuxing changes the container so the recording is easier to use elsewhere without asking you to capture the gameplay again.

Start a little before the decisive action when the score, opponent position, callout, or setup explains why the moment matters. Remove queues, menus, loading screens, and long stretches where nothing changes. End after the result is visible or audible instead of cutting at the exact instant of the play.

Preview the selected range from beginning to end. Listen for microphone audio, game sound, copyrighted music, private voice chat, and anything else that should not leave the original recording. Save Replay prepares the selected range, but the person sharing the clip remains responsible for what is visible and audible inside it.

The share URL is created as upload begins and reports processing until playback is ready. Keep the original OBS recording if it has archival value; the short shared clip is a focused derivative, not a replacement for the source or a backup of the whole session.
