How to Record Your Screen on a Chromebook

Full screen is appropriate when the explanation moves between windows or uses the shelf. Window recording keeps other ChromeOS activity outside the video. A partial recording is best when only one area matters, and ChromeOS can save that partial capture as WebM video or as a GIF.

Choose video when the recording needs sound, continuous motion, or a file that can be trimmed as video. Google notes that GIF capture does not include audio or video input. Keep the complete interaction inside the selected boundary, including menus that may open to the side.

ChromeOS offers device audio, microphone audio, or both. It can also place the front camera on the recording and show clicks, key combinations, and touch gestures. Each option adds information and possible privacy exposure, so turn on only what the viewer needs.

The key display protects ordinary typed text by showing only combinations that include modifier keys, according to Google's guide. It still does not make a recording safe by itself. Use a test account, close unrelated tabs, silence notifications, and check camera framing and room audio in a short sample.

Recordings go to Downloads by default. Screen Capture settings can point future files to another folder. Rename the useful take soon after recording so it is not confused with failed samples, and play it in the Files app to check the picture and every chosen audio source.

A WebM recording is one of Save Replay's accepted source containers when the browser can decode and prepare it. Open the file, choose the range that contains the full explanation, and upload that selection. Keep the original Chromebook recording until the watch link is ready and has been opened once.
