How to Record Your Screen on an iPhone
The iPhone screen recorder is built into Control Center. It can capture a short app walkthrough or problem without another recording app, but microphone choice and private notifications need attention before the countdown starts.

Open Control Center, tap Screen Recording, and wait through the three-second countdown. To add your voice, press and hold Screen Recording first and turn on Microphone. Stop from the red recording control at the top of the screen or from Control Center; the video is saved in Photos.
A practical framework
Work through the decision in four steps
- 1
Add the control if needed
Open Control Center customization and add Screen Recording when its circular record button is not already available.
- 2
Choose microphone audio
Press and hold the Screen Recording control when narration is needed, turn Microphone on, and return to the screen you want to show.
- 3
Record one clear take
Tap Screen Recording, wait for the three-second countdown, perform the task, then stop from the red status control or Control Center.
- 4
Review the video in Photos
Open the recording in Photos, check audio and visible data, then trim and share only the part the viewer needs.
Decide whether the recording needs your voice
The default screen capture records what the device and app allow. Pressing and holding the control exposes the Microphone choice for spoken narration. Use narration when it explains a gesture or result that is not obvious on screen; leave it off when room audio and conversation would add risk without helping the viewer.
Run a five-second test with the same app and microphone choice. Play it from Photos with the volume up. Some apps may prevent audio or video capture, and Apple says screen recording cannot run at the same time as screen mirroring. Respect the app's restriction instead of trying to work around protected content.
Prepare the iPhone before the countdown
Turn on Focus or otherwise silence notifications, close private apps in the app switcher, and place the target app on its starting screen. The three-second countdown gives you a moment to leave Control Center, but it does not hide banners or information that appears after recording begins.
Use sample names and accounts when possible. Check status-bar details, messages, email previews, health information, payment screens, one-time codes, and photo thumbnails. A small phone screen can make those details easy to miss during the take and obvious when the video is replayed full size.
