How to Record Part of Your Screen With Windows Snipping Tool

Microsoft describes Video snip as a recording of a rectangular selection. That is useful for a small app workflow, a UI problem, or a short instruction where the rest of the desktop would be noise. Position popovers and menus inside the rectangle before you start because anything outside it will not appear.

Use a different recorder when the important content moves between monitors, opens outside the selected area, or needs several composed sources. Game Bar is aimed at a game or application, while OBS can combine screens, windows, cameras, and audio with more setup.

Pause briefly on the starting state, move the pointer steadily, and leave the final result visible before stopping. A short clean take is easier to understand than a rushed capture followed by an edit. If the action fails, reset the app and record a new take instead of making the viewer decode several attempts.

The rectangle reduces what is visible, but notifications, account names, customer information, browser suggestions, and clipboard tools can still appear inside it. Turn off notifications, use sample data, and play the complete saved video before it leaves the computer.

Keep Snipping Tool updated when the video shortcut is missing. Microsoft also notes that screen recording is unavailable on Windows N editions until the required Media Feature Pack is installed. If the recording control still does not appear, use an available recorder instead of relying on steps for a feature the current system does not expose.

After saving, open the file in Save Replay when you need a watch link for the selected range. Trim the countdown, pointer placement, or pause after the result, then upload the prepared range. Snipping Tool creates the source; Save Replay begins with that saved source file.
